John is an Australian trained orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in the treatment of spinal disorders. He has a special interest in the development of spondylolisthesis and its treatments, as well as measuring the outcomes of spinal surgery.
John grew up in Sydney where he completed his orthopaedic training before travelling to Canada and New Zealand, undergoing further specialist spine surgery training. He has a strong research background in the basic sciences, spinal surgery, spinal trauma and epidemiology, is widely published in journals and regularly presents at international scientific meetings. He is accredited by TAC and WorkCover as an Independent Medical Examiner.
Whatever the spinal problem, from the neck to the lower back, John will provide an open and honest opinion on the likely cause, and of how and when surgery could be of benefit. John practices traditional "open" surgical techniques and has extensive experience with the more modern minimally invasive techniques. He recommends non-operative treatments when appropriate, and encourages patients to explore all avenues of health care.
You are strongly recommended to view the patient information pages where you can learn more about your condition, its treatment, and other information about spinal surgery.
John sees privately insured, self insured, TAC and WorkCover patients in his private rooms at Collins Street, Richmond and Frankston. He sees public patients in the clinics at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
John is available for consultation at Medical Specialists on Collins Monday mornings commencing February 2015. For an appointment please phone John's main rooms on 9428 9411.
